Founded in 2021, Access Academia is a student-led charitable initiative that promotes student research and community dialogue on issues of intersectional social justice, such as race, gender, sexuality etc. We are run by a team of 30+ students and researchers in the UK, Europe, Middle East, Asia and the US. We are in the midst of being registered as a charity in the UK.
We publish the multidisciplinary Journal for Intersectional Social Justice and Intersections blog. Both publications champion student research that highlights topics under the umbrella of social justice, including but not limited to climate change, gender equality, queer rights, anti-racism, decolonisation practices, visibility of marginalised communities etc.
The Social Justice Research Fellowship is a pilot programme at the University of Manchester in 2024. It aims to nurture mentorship and collaboration between early-career researchers and university students to develop or contribute to research on social justice or intersectionality, with the possibility of co-publishing research outcomes. PhD candidates will serve as mentors (Senior Fellows) to guide bachelor’s and master’s students as mentees (Fellows) on research design and development. Curriculum reference and honorarium will be provided for Senior Fellows. Research allowance may be provided for participants upon request to carry out research activities as part of the Project. Participants will enhance academic skills in online seminars and meet, network and present outcomes at the Universally Manchester Festival. Upon completion of the Project, participants may opt to publish their work on the Journal of Intersectional Social Justice or other publications.
The Social Justice Research Fellowship is supported by the Student Experience Fund of the University of Manchester.
